The Christmas Spirit, But On-Brand

Christmas is coming and by now a lot of yuletide campaigns will be well underway. Shops have had decorations and treats out since the summer holidays, John Lewis is releasing their highly anticipated TV advert, Aldis carrot is back in the spotlight and the Coca-Cola truck has been spotted making its way across the country. The Christmas staples we all know and love are here, again.

But in amongst all the traditions, there are a few campaigns that have shone through as being a little different…

Ikea 2019

This Ikea advert entitled ‘Silence the Critics’ is a great example of looking at Christmas from another perspective. Rather than focusing on the joy Christmas brings it comes from relieving one of the pains of Christmas by acknowledging the judgy visitors commenting on your home.

The teapot and ornaments all chime in together in a rap to critique the house and the family use Ikea furniture to turn it into a home to be proud of.

The advert could be taken quite offensively in that your house needs to look a certain way to be acceptable but the comedic way this is done alleviates most concerns whilst making it an advert to remember.

Lego 2020

This advert is genius, set in a normal house decorated for Christmas, but that is where the festive ties end. As the adults create Lego and sing the traditional lyrics to ‘What A Wonderful World’ the children completely reimagine everything and their imaginations run wild whilst singing their own lyrics to the song.

This advert shows how differently children see the world to adults and without saying it directly reminds adults that Lego is a great gift to spark the imagination.

Pepsi 2020

The Coca-Cola truck is a Christmas icon meaning Pepsi can have a hard time getting noticed so they came up with this quick but very clever advert. They go completely the opposite way to Coke and rap about tradition being cliche and that it's time to give Christmas a refresh. It works so well with their branding and catches attention.

The fact that they don’t try to compete with Coke, but do their own thing their own way makes a memorable advert.

Crafting a Christmas campaign that resonates with your brand involves thoughtful strategy. Consider the essence of your brand – whether it's traditional, modern, or quirky. Infuse Christmas elements while staying true to your brand persona. Learn from competitors, analyse what works, and tailor your approach. Embrace creativity, allowing your campaign to stand out. Reflect on what makes your brand unique, and let it shine through in your festive endeavours. By aligning your Christmas campaign with your brand identity, you create a memorable and authentic experience for your audience.
